The STMA (Subscriber and trunk modules for ATM (asynchronous transfer mode)) board offers two features in Hicom 300E V1.0:
The STMA has an optical fiber interface with a transmission capability of up to 155 Mbit/s. Since it serves up to 4 2Mbit highways on the system side, only 8 Mbit/s are used. The STMA can be connected to an ATM switch or directly linked with another STMA via an optical waveguide (OWG). The fiber optic interface offers 4 (logical) ports in both operating modes (PBB and IW).
The STMA can be used as a reference clock supplier.
The STMA board can only be used in the Hicom 300 architecture types 80 CMX or 600 ECX.
Two further operating modes for remote Hicom users are planned for Hicom 300 E V2.0 (FUP).
Characteristics of the optical ATM interface are:
Serial 155 MBit/s interface
Transfer rate with SDH/SONET-control: 155.52 Mbit/s (+- 20 ppm)
Transfer rate without SDH/SONET-control: 149.76 Mbit/s
Range of about 2 km (1.24 miles)
Frame: SONET or SDH (STS3c or STM-1), administrable
